Cyclone Fengal fallout: Pondicherry University, Annamalai University postpone exams to be held on December 3

The remnant of Cyclone Fengal that brought torrential rainfall in various districts is expected to weaken further by Tuesday (December 3, 2024). It is expected to bring heavy rainfall to 15 districts in the State as it moves.

The weather system, which is travelling westward slowly, pounded various districts on its path and left a trail of floods. The Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai, has issued a yellow alert indicating the possibility of heavy rainfall up to 11 cm in interior and Western Ghat districts, including the Nilgiris, Krishnagiri, Tiruppur, Erode, Theni, and Madurai, on Tuesday (December 3, 2024).

Cyclone Fengal highlights

The Tamil Nadu government has declared holiday for schools in Uthangarai and Pochampalli taluks of Krishnagiri district on Tuesday (December 3, 2024) in view of water-logging in schools. Schools will be closed on December 3 in Salem district also.

In Puducherry too a holiday has been declared for schools and colleges on on Tuesday (December 3, 2024). Puducherry Education Minister A. Namassivayam on Monday (December 2, 2024) said, “A holiday has been declared on December 3 for all government, government aided and private schools and all colleges in Puducherry due to incessant heavy rains.”

The Pondicherry University has rescheduled examinations slated between Tuesday (December 3, 2024) and Thursday (December 5, 2024). Fresh dates would be announced soon, the Assistant Registrar (Examinations) said. The examinations slated from Friday (December 6, 2024) will be held as scheduled, the University said.

All the examinations of Annamalai University and its affiliated colleges in Cuddalore, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, and Mayiladuthurai districts scheduled for December 3, 2024 have also been postponed. Revised dates of examination will be intimated later.
