New Delhi: A group of Congress MPs from Punjab staged a protest outside Parliament on Thursday, condemning the overnight detention of farmer leaders by Punjab police and the clearing of protest sites at Shambhu and Khanauri borders.
The MPs accused the Centre, the AAP-led Punjab government, and the BJP-led Haryana government of coordinating the action, which they labelled as anti-farmer.
Holding placards, the protesting MPs raised slogans against the AAP and BJP governments. Leader of Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, briefly met the MPs during the protest.
Speaking to the media, Congress MP and Punjab PCC president, Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, condemned the “atrocities” against farmers, saying, “The real face of the governments, which claimed to be well-wishers of farmers, has been exposed. When they were unwilling to meet farmers’ demands for MSP, why did they pretend to engage in talks? CM Bhagwant Mann and Home Minister Amit Shah orchestrated these actions, including the beatings and detentions. This is wrong and undemocratic.”
Another Congress MP, Amar Singh, added, “From the beginning, we’ve said AAP is BJP-RSS’s B-team. They’ve colluded with the central government. The Haryana police closed the borders, and this was a coordinated effort by the governments of Haryana, Punjab, and Delhi.”
