NEW DELHI: Delhi customs officials on Thursday announced that they have
arrested
Congress MP
Shashi Tharoor
’s personal assistant at the Delhi IGI airport after he was allegedly caught smuggling gold from Dubai. The personal assistant, identified as
Shiv Kumar Prasad
was caught with 500 grams of gold, according to custom sources.
The arrest involved another individual, according to officials.
Tharoor’s PA had reportedly come to the Delhi Airport to receive a person who had arrived from Dubai. Both people were arrested when the passenger was trying to hand over around 500 Grams of gold to Prasad.
“Prasad has aerodrome entry permit card that allows him access to airport premises. He entered the airport premises and receiving a packet when he was held along with the passenger,” said customs officials quoted by ANI.
The case is under investigation and their credentials have been verified, the officials added.
Meanwhile, Union minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar referring to the report on the detention of the alleged
aide
of Shashi Tharoor, hit out at the Congress and the CPM dubbing them an “alliance of gold smugglers.”
