Tension prevailed in Selaiyur on Saturday (December 28, 2024) after a group of persons pelted stones during a protest against a medical shop in Ramakrishnapuram over the death of an 18-year-old college student.
The Selaiyur police have registered a case and posted personnel at the scene to prevent any untoward incident.
A senior official of the Tambaram Police Commissionerate said the deceased Santosh, a resident of Chandran Street, Selaiyur, was a first-year student at a private college in Santhosapuram. Two days ago, when he fell ill, he got an injection administered from the medical shop without a prescription or a doctor’s visit.
Santhosh reportedly experienced severe body pain after the injection and was admitted to the Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital on Friday (December 27, 2024). He died on Saturday morning.
Following his death, Santhosh’s family members staged a protest with his body in front of the medical shop. They claimed he died due to the injection administered at the shop.
The Selaiyur police, on being alerted about the protest, sent the body to the Chromepet Government Hospital for postmortem examination.
