NEW DELHI: After a two-and-a-half-year hiatus, Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu returned to the assembly on Friday. His absence was due to an incident in which he felt insulted by comments made against his family members.
In November 2021, Naidu had emotionally declared that he would only re-enter the assembly after being sworn in as chief minister. With the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and its allies securing a resounding victory in the recent elections, Naidu entered the House as the chief minister.
Upon entering the assembly, Naidu bowed and touched the ground at the entrance.

TDP legislators and allies greeted him enthusiastically, carrying placards with his image and chanting slogans such as “Welcome to august House” and “truth has prevailed, democracy has won”.

Naidu had boycotted the assembly since November 19, 2021, when he walked out in protest against remarks made by members of the then-ruling party against his family members, particularly his wife, Bhuvaneswari.
“For the last two and a half years, I have been bearing the insults but remained calm. Today, they have targeted even my wife. I was always lived with honour and for honour,” Naidu had said in 2021. He then announced his decision to stay away from the House “till I return to power”.
Actor-Politician and Janasena chief Pawan Kalyan also entered the House for the first time in his 16-year-old political career as Pithapuram MLA and deputy chief minister. The NDA alliance swept the 2024

elections, winning 164 seats in the 175-member House.
