MEERUT: A massive fire broke out at a
thread factory
in the Sarai Kaji region of UP’s
Meerut
on Friday. Prima facie revealed the fire was triggered by a
short circuit
.
Chief fire officer Santosh Kumar Rai told TOI, “The incident occurred in the wee hours of Friday, causing the roof to explode and the wall to collapse. Eight fire tenders rushed to the spot to douse the fire in almost four hours.
No casualties were reported. However, the actual loss cannot be ascertained yet as the factory owner is on the run. It seems that the factory doesn’t have a fire Non-Objection Certificate and we’re probing to verify the claim.”
SP City Ayush Vikram Singh added, “Once we receive a complaint from the fire department, we’ll lodge an FIR against the owner if the person is found to be in violation of the fire safety regulations.”
