Though yet to feature in Mumbai’s senior team, Himanshu Singh’s call-up to the Indian camp is a testament to his hard work and growing reputation.

In an exciting development for Indian cricket, Mumbai’s young off-spinner Himanshu Singh has been invited to join the Team India camp in Chennai. The camp, which serves as preparation for the upcoming first Test against Bangladesh, will run from September 13 to 18. All selected players are required to report by September 12, with those currently engaged in the Duleep Trophy joining post their matches.

Impressive performance by Himanshu Singh

The 21-year-old off-spinner has caught the attention of the national selectors following his remarkable performance in the Dr (Capt) K Thimmappiah Memorial Tournament as per TOI.

On Saturday, Himanshu produced a stunning display, taking 7 wickets for 74 runs in Mumbai’s match against Andhra at Alur-1 Ground. Despite his lack of experience at the senior level for Mumbai, his consistent performances in age-group cricket for Mumbai U-16 and U-23 teams have not gone unnoticed.

Himanshu has been a part of the BCCI’s ‘emerging players’ camps in Anantapur and Bengaluru in recent years, where he honed his skills under expert guidance. This camp is a significant step in his journey, as he moves closer to representing India on the international stage.

BCCI selectors keeping close eye

Ajit Agarkar, India’s chief selector, along with his panel, has been monitoring Himanshu’s progress for some time. The tall, six-foot-four off-spinner has drawn comparisons to India’s veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin due to his similar bowling action and impressive control.

Agarkar and his team have been particularly impressed by Himanshu’s potential, leading to his inclusion in the national camp.

Future star in making?

Though yet to feature in Mumbai’s senior team, Himanshu Singh’s call-up to the Indian camp is a testament to his hard work and growing reputation. With the camp being a key preparation phase ahead of the Test series, it provides Himanshu with a golden opportunity to impress and learn from some of the best players in the country.
