Indian wrestler Satender Malik, who is banned for life for assualting a referee, alleged conspiracy over Vinesh Phogat being disqualified from the Paris Olympics. Vinesh faced an heartbreaking exit in the Games after failing to keep her weight under check, shattering the hopes of securing a silver medal. Satender Malik claimed that there was a lot of politics over Vinesh Phogat and that it shouldn’r be the case for Indian atheletes.
Conspiracy in Vinesh Phogat’s Paris Olympics disqualification?
In an exclusive interview with Insidesport, Satender Malik said that he was saddened by the events that unfolded for Vinesh Phogat in the Olympics. He hoped that the verdict from the Court of Arbitration in Sports (CAS) would come in favour of Vinesh’s appeal. He further heaped praise on the rewards that were announced to honour the wrestler.
Satender Malik also heaped praise on Aman Sehwarat for his bronze medal heroics in the Paris Olympics. He recalled the times when Aman came to the Chhatrasal stadium as a youngster and how Sushil Kumar helped in nurturing the wrestler.
The CAS is yet to deliver its verdict in Vinesh Phogat’s appeal and is expected to pronounce the order on Tuesday. The wrestler was disqualified o the eve of her gold match bout after being foung 100gm overweight on the morning of the weigh-in.
Meanwhile, Satender Malik recieved a life ban after launching a pysical assault on the referee after his loss in the Commonwealth Games (CWG) trials in 2022. He faced a further hurdle as he was banned by NADA’s Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel for failing to submit his sample collections for dope checking.
