14 years later, Australia has finally gotten its revenge on England. Having lost the 2010 T20 World Cup Final to their arch-rival at the Kensington Oval in Barbados, the Mitchell Marsh-led side convincingly beat (36 runs) the defending champions. Not only has Australia moved to the top of Group B, but they have also made England’s road to the Super 8 much more difficult. At this point, Scotland has a better chance of making the next stage, while Australia has basically sealed their spot with matches against Namibia and Scotland yet to be played.

Australia win by 36 runs!

22 runs per over needed

England would basically have to hit a 4 every ball to stand a chance to win. It’s fair to say that’s not happening today.

England: 136/5 after 17 overs.

Moeen departs

England’s hopes of making it to the Super 8 may have departed along with Moeen Ali. They now need 76 runs from 26 balls.

England: 128/5 after 15.4 overs.

Bairstow back into the hut

Josh Hazlewood gets a crucial wicket. However, England might get lucky. Jonny Bairstow wasn’t looking at his best 7(13), and other batters might take England home.

England: 124/4 after 14.1 overs.

Moeen bring England back

Moeen Ali smashes three sixes off Glenn Maxwell’s bowling and keeps England in the chase. They now need 78 runs in 6 overs.

England: 124/3 after 14 overs.

Jacks jogs off

Will Jacks holes out at long-off, scoring 10(10). England has scored just 26 runs in the 4 overs and lost three wickets.

England: 99/3 after 11 overs.

Buttler: 6 & Out

After hitting a flat six over mid-off, Buttler gets caught at backward point. He tried to reserve sweep, but the ball was bowled way outside leg, and a top edge flew to Pat Cummins’ hand instead.

England: 93/2 after 9.5 overs.

Two tight overs for Australia

Just 10 runs have come in the last two overs, and a wicket has fallen as well. Zampa got the breakthrough on the 8th, and Cummins kept it tight in the 9th over.

England: 83/1 after 9 overs.

Zampa in the zone

It was odd that Mitchell Marsh hadn’t introduced spin yet, and on the first ball Adam Zampa bowled, he got Phil Salt. A flat leg spinner on off stump that spun a touch, Salt tries to guide it to third man but misses it completely.

England: 73/1 after 7.1 overs.

Head gives Salt a chance

Travis Head caught Phil Salt at deep backward point but stepped on the boundary cushion. Then Buttler smashed Starc, and the left-arm pacer gave up 19 runs in the over.

England: 73/0 after 7 overs.

England ahead after powerplay

Buttler and Salt may have not scored the amount of runs they wanted but to remain wicketless has definitely improved England’s chances of victory.

England: 54/0 after 6 overs.

13 off the 3rd

Mitchell Starc gets hit out of the park, first by Phil Salt and then by Buttler. England on their way.

England: 31/0 after 3 overs.

Hazlewood proves costly

12 off Josh Hazlewood’s over as Jos Buttler hits two boundaries to get things going.

England: 18/0 after 2 overs.

Good start for Starc

A brilliant yorker to start with and then a great showcase of control and swing for Mitchell Starc. Phil Salt was lucky to get an edge on the first ball.

England: 6/0 after 1 over.

England needs 202 to win

A good comeback by England, one has to say. Australia were 74/2 after 6 overs and 139/3 after 14 overs, but all they managed was 201.

Australia: 201/7 after 20 overs.

Great spell by Archer

Jofra Archer bowls an excellent 19th over, giving away just 7 runs. He ends his 4-over spell with a wicket and an economy of 7.

Australia: 193/5 after 19 overs.

210 on the cards

Australia: 185/5 after 18 overs.

Dangerous David departs

After being hit for six, Chris Jordan has claimed his revenge over Tim David. Getting him caught at the deep extra-cover. David goes to the dressing room after making 11(8).

Australia: 173/5 after 17 overs.

Leg spin to win

After Livingstone, it’s Adil Rashid’s turn to get a wicket. A half-tracker that Glenn Maxwell fails to dispatch into the crown and instead hits it straight to Phil Salt at deep mid-wicket. Maxwell goes for a scratchy 28(25).

Australia: 149/5 after 15 overs.

Spin strikes

Part-timer Liam Livingstone has handed England a crucial third wicket. He gets Mitchell Marsh stumped, and the Australian skipper departs for a handy 35(25).

Australia: 140/3 after 14 overs.

Maxi getting into his groove

After a sluggish start, Maxwell is turning it up now. He’s scored 15 runs in the last 8 balls. Mitchell Marsh: 34(23), Glenn Maxwell: 26(21).

Australia: 136/2 after 13 overs.

Marsh takes control

The Australian skipper is starting to strike quickly, but Maxwell is currently struggling. Mitchell Marsh: 26(19), Glenn Maxwell: 11(13).

Australia: 111/2 after 11 overs.

Australia cross 100

Despite a slowdown, Australia are striking at over 10 runs an over. Mitchell Marsh: 18(15), Glenn Maxwell: 10(11).

Australia: 102/2 after 10 overs.

Good comeback from England

After giving away 74 runs in the powerplay, England have put a stop to Australia’s quick scoring. Just 11 runs have come in the last two overs.

Australia: 85/2 after 8 overs.

Archer ends England’s ‘head’ache

Travis Head has followed partner Warner to the dressing room. This time, it’s Jofra Archer who gets the wicket. He outdoes the southpaw with an off cutter aimed at the stumps.

Australia: 74/2 after 6 overs.

Moeen strikes!

David Warner departs after an incredible inning of 39(16). Moeen Ali gives England a much-needed breakthrough. However, one must say that Warner may have already won Australia the match.

Australia: 70/1 after 5 overs.

Wood, not on Mark

A costly first over to start. The speedster couldn’t find his line. Started with a full and then a short ball on the leg stump, both of which were dispatched by David Warner. Was then smashed for a six and four towards mid-wicket and ended with a dot. 22 off the over.

Australia: 55/0 after 4 overs.

Archer on

Eight runs from Jofra Archer’s first over. Good speed, but the pacer still finding his line.

Australia: 33/0 after 3 overs.

Jacks misfires

Head and Warner have hit Will Jacks for 22 in the over. Hitting him for three big hits, all slog sweeps on the leg side

Australia: 25/0 after 2 overs.

Spin from both ends, Will Jacks gets a go

Quite first over for Australia

Moeen got good spin and bounce in the first over, good spins for England as they have Adil Rashid and Liam Livingstone as well.

Australia: 3/0 after 1 over

Here we go!

David Warner and Travis Head are in the middle, and Moeen Ali has the new ball in hand.

Cummins comeback correct?

Australia has decided to bring Pat Cummins back into the XI, having dropped him for Nathan Ellis in the last game. The peculiar thing is that Ellis picked up two wickets for just 28 runs and still hasn’t been included in the side.
