Arvind Kejriwal to vacate Delhi CM residence in 1-2 days; house finalised near party headquarters: AAP

Synopsis

Arvind Kejriwal, AAP convener, has finalised a house in New Delhi and will move in with his family within one to two days. He will vacate the official residence at Flagstaff Road during the Navratri period. The new house is near the AAP headquarters. Kejriwal resigned as Delhi chief minister earlier this month.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener Arvind Kejriwal will move to a new hose in the New Delhi area. He will vacate the Chief Minister’s residence at Flagstaff Road in Civil Lines in the next one or two days, the party said.

He is likely to move in with his family, including his wife, children and parents, in one of the two official bungalows allotted to the AAP Rajya Sabha MPs on Feroz Shah Road near Mandi House, sources told PTI.

The two bungalows are a few meters away from the AAP headquarters at Ravi Shankar Shukla Lane, they said.

“Kejriwal will leave the official CM residence in next 1-2 days, as a house has been finalised for him and his family,” the party said in a statement without disclosing location of the new accommodation.

AAP had demanded that the Central government provide an official accommodation to Kejriwal for holding the position of president of a national party.

Kejriwal will live with his family in the New Delhi constituency represented by him in the Delhi Assembly, the party said.

Before joining politics, Kejriwal who is from Haryana, used to live in the Kaushambi area of Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad.

After he became Delhi chief minister for the first time in 2013, he moved to a bungalow at Tilak Lane in Delhi. He shifted to the Flagstaff Road residence in 2015 after once again swearing in as the chief minister of Delhi.

Arvind Kejriwal resigns as Delhi Chief Minister

The AAP supremo resigned as the chief minister of Delhi on September 18, days after getting bail in the alleged excise policy case.

He had said on that he would become chief minister and Manish Sisodia his deputy only when people said they were honest.

“I will resign from the Chief Minister position in two days and will not occupy the CM’s chair. Elections will be held in Delhi in a few months, and I want to appeal to the people. If you believe that Kejriwal is honest, then vote for me,” Kejriwal told party workers.

Days after being released from Tihar jail on bail, the AAP national convenor said that he would resign within 48 hours and sought early polls in Delhi.

Liquor Policy case

Kejriwal was arrested on March 21, 2024 by the Enforcement Directorate on allegations of a liquor scam against the Aam Aadmi Party led Delhi Government before Lok Sabha elections. On May 10, the Supreme Court ordered Kejriwal’s release on interim bail until June 1, on account of campaigning for the election. Kejriwal surrendered at Tihar Jail after the expiry of his bail period on June 2. He was granted bail by Supreme Court on September 13 with certain conditions. However, the investigation pertaining to the case still continues.
