NEW DELHI: A large quantity of arms, ammunition and other “war-like stores” was intercepted on Monday by
Assam Rifles
in Mon district of Nagaland close to the India-Myanmar border.
Acting upon
intelligence inputs
, Assam Rifles launched the search operation in the early hours that led to the apprehension of an individual and the seizure of 11 mortar tubes (81mm), four mortar tubes (106mm), 10 pistols, 198 hand-held radio sets, a satellite phone, a Kenbo bike and a Bolero vehicle.
“Recovery of these heavy-caliber military grade weapons close to the border is a major success for the
border sealing operation
being carried out by Assam Rifles. It is also a major blow to the nefarious designs of
inimical elements
trying to disturb the peace in the region,” an officer said. The apprehended individual and the seized arms were later handed over to the Nagaland Police.
