, share a strong bond as they grew up together and consider themselves sisters more than best friends. In a recent podcast, they recounted an incident where they were held hostage as children by a
house help
who worked for them and was attempting to rob their house. Aaliyah shared that the woman put tape on their mouths and tied their hands to a chair.
They described it as a terrifying experience.
Ida was a guest on Aaliyah’s podcast, ‘Young, Dumb & Anxious,’ where they discussed the “trauma bonding” that occurred as a result. Aaliyah clarified that it was not technically a
kidnapping
because they were at home; it was part of a
robbery
. Ida mentioned that they were blank and clueless after being taken hostage.

Aaliyah further explained that Ida’s parents and her own parents were going out together, leaving Ida at Aaliyah’s house with her grandmother. “My nani was watching us, and so was our didi, who was working in our house at the time,” she narrated. The house help locked Aaliyah’s nani in a room after her parents left, then taped Ida’s and Aaliyah’s mouths and tied their hands to chairs. They were crying and freaking out, fearing for their lives, while the house help stole jewelry, money, and other valuables.
Fortunately, Aaliyah’s mother returned after 15-20 minutes because she had forgotten something. She saw what was happening, called everyone back, and they all freaked out. “It was obviously traumatic, but it would have been a lot more traumatic if we had gone through that alone,” Aaliyah mentioned.
Ida now recalls it as a funny story, and Aaliyah said they laugh about the incident now.
