New Delhi: Union home minister Amit Shah has been regularly reviewing the security situation in Manipur, ensuring necessary action in the past 100 days, government officials said, adding that dialogues are being held with both the Meitei and Kuki communities to restore peace in the region as soon as possible.
As per the officials, two battalions of the CRPF have been deployed in Manipur, in addition to about 200 teams of central police forces.
Meanwhile, the central government has ended the Free Movement Regime along the India-Myanmar border. The Cabinet Committee on Security has in principle approved the construction of border fencing and roads along the 1,610-kilometre international border between India and Myanmar at a cost of about Rs 31,000 crore. About 10 km of fencing has been completed over Moreh, and work is underway to fence another 21 km of the border in other areas of Manipur, said people in the know.
