Left parties have demanded the dismissal of Union Home Minister Amit Shah for ‘insulting’ Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution and Bharat Ratna, in the Parliament.
The Left parties staged a protest as part of nationwide demonstrations against Mr. Amit Shah’s comments on Ambedkar here on Monday, December 30.
CPI State secretary K. Ramakrishna, addressing the gathering, said that by “insulting Ambedkar”, the BJP’s true nature and the intentions of the RSS become clear. “The BJP claimed, during the recent general elections, that they would amend the Constitution if they won 400 seats. The BJP came to power with the support of the TDP and JD(U), and if the parties’ heads, N. Chandrababu Naidu and Nitish Kumar, withdrew their support, the NDA government would collapse. The BJP’s goal is to dismantle the democratic system, and in this regard, the government plans to introduce simultaneous elections,” he said.
CPI(M) State secretary V. Srinivas Rao stated that Mr. Amit Shah, who “insulted Ambedkar” on Constitution Day in Parliament, is unfit to continue as a Union Minister. He demanded an apology from Mr. Shah to the people. He also criticized Prime Minister Modi for supporting Mr. Shah despite claiming that the Constitution, written by Dr. Ambedkar, enabled him to become the Prime Minister. Mr. Srinivas Rao described the RSS’s long-term strategy as “attempting to change the Constitution”.
P. Prasad, a member of the CPI(ML) New Democracy State executive; K. Polari, CPI(ML) leader; D. Harinath of CPI(ML) Liberation, J. Janakirama of the RSP Telangana State committee, and S.K. Khaderbasha of the MCI(YS) State executive spoke in solidarity.
They urged secular and democratic forces to protect people’s rights, accusing the BJP and Congress of attempting to divide by “defaming” Ambedkar. They called for the strengthening of the people’s movement and demanded that Amit Shah withdraw his comments. They also questioned whether Mr. Modi, who cheers for his supporters shouting “Modi, Modi,” would dare tell them to “reflect on Hindu gods for virtue”.
