Amit Sadh: The reactions to my biking videos have taught me the power of cinema

Amit Sadh posed for us at Priya Complex, Vasant Vihar during his recent visit to Delhi

Amit Sadh, a self-confessed “believer, explorer, and seeker”, made a quick stop in Delhi recently, on his way back from a Tsokar-Merak-Leh biking trip. While here, the Breathe actor spoke about how he derives energy from people and why

motorcycling

is his “report card”.

‘Motorcycling is an inward-looking journey for me’

For Amit, riding is more than a passion – it’s a way to experience life. “I meet so many people on these journeys. During one of the trips, I met a mahila mandal at Rashil village. It was amazing to see how they protect our forests, biodiversity, flora and fauna… So, motorcycling, touring are catalysts to my rhythm of thoughts and my love to know other people,” he says.

“Motorcycles Saved My Life (his YouTube series) is my gift to myself and the world. I’m not doing this to inspire people, I am doing this to inspire myself,” he says, adding, “The way I’m riding the bike, my rhythm, throttle or no throttle, thoughts that come to my mind while riding, the experience that I’m having – it is my report card. It is an inward-looking journey for me.” On his love for exploration and travel, the Kai Po Che! actor adds, “We were not born to sit at home and watch TV. We were born to go out and create. We are born to socialise and to be relevant. And so, my idea of travel would be to go to places that haven’t been explored yet – where there’s no network but there’s nature and real connections.”

“Biking aap ka akelapan dur bhi karti hai, aur akelapan deti bhi hai

“Biking aap ka akelapan dur bhi karti hai, aur akelapan deti bhi hai”

It has been over 20 years in the industry…I don’t know how I’ve survived that. There have been phases, when despite resilience and grit… I felt ki ab nahi hoga. But then I go inward. Luck is a function of intent, and intent can be made better. I decided to make my intent better, every day

‘I realise how much I’ve evolved as a person during these journeys’
Ask him if he had any qualms about taking up the task of filming his journeys as it may shift his and his fans’ focus to motorcycling instead of his movies, and he replies, “When you create something, you cannot think about others. So, a movie or a series of videos on motorcycling or an interview, all are different energy systems. But they all stem from me, from collaborations. So, I don’t attach any insecurities to anything. When Keanu Reeves rides a bike, people find it cool. When Tom Hardy does Jiu-Jitsu, they say, how cool. So how can my biking be wrong? And if I am getting better with my biking, people are getting love and happiness. How can it be wrong?”

Amit also realised how much he has evolved as a person through biking. “Through motorcycling, I check myself – where am I in life? There was a time I was angry, riding in Ladakh but never really seeing it. I’ve visited Ladakh 15 times, but I’ve never seen it. Last year, that changed. I have evolved. Even more in the last one or two years. I have opened up a lot to the universe,” he shares, adding, “The reactions to my videos are teaching me about the power of cinema too, choosing the right films, and not being greedy.
Amit Sadh’s tips for becoming a better biker

  • Be aware of yourself and your riding
  • Emotions get the better of you, keep a check
  • on how you are feeling
  • Wearing proper biking rigs and gears is cool
  • Practice obstacle courses; let go of the fear

‘Biking keeps me closer to reality’
“Biking aap ka akelapan dur bhi karti hai, aur akelapan deti bhi hai. It depends on what you need. We need both things in life. Kabhi akelapan bhi chahiye hota hai aur kabhi logon ka saath bhi. Biking keeps me closer to reality,” he says, adding, “The more you live, it translates in your behaviour, your thoughts, your energy and your work. You don’t have to aim for greatness. Everything is awareness.” The filming of

biking videos

in the mountains has grounded him even more, says the Jeet Ki Zid actor. “I learnt to let go, I learned how to not get paranoid. I am a fanatic when it comes to eating healthy. But, to undertake this journey, I decided that I would eat everything!”
