Prajwal Revanna, the incumbent MP from Hassan representing the Janata Dal (Secular), is currently embroiled in allegations of sexual harassment and an alleged obscene video scandal. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed by the Karnataka government to probe these allegations against him. Amidst the ongoing scandal and investigation by the SIT, Prajwal Revanna has reportedly left the country.

The BJP, in partnership with the JD(S) for the Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka, has distanced itself from Prajwal Revanna in light of the controversy surrounding the alleged sex tapes. Meanwhile, the Congress made a serious accusation, claiming that “a pen drive full of pornographic videos” has been uncovered and that obscene video clips are circulating in Hassan district. The Congress party has alleged that “MP and NDA candidate Prajwal Revanna sexually assaulted thousands of women and recorded objectionable videos of them.”

An FIR has been lodged against Prajwal Revanna and his father, JD(S) leader HD Revanna, at the Holenarasipur police station following a complaint by their former household assistant. These accusations have brought Prajwal Revanna under close scrutiny as the investigation into the matter continues.

Prajwal Revanna, 33 years old, is the first third-generation member of the Gowda clan. He is the son of HD Revanna, who previously served as the PWD minister of Karnataka, and the nephew of HD Kumaraswamy. HD Revanna is the son of HD Deve Gowda, a former Prime Minister and the leader of JD(S).

Revanna completed his mechanical engineering studies at Bangalore Institute of Technology in 2014 and has been actively involved in politics since then. He was appointed as the state general secretary of JDS i in November 2019 when he was 29 years old.

For the Lok Sabha elections, the Janata Dal (Secular) has once again nominated him as their candidate from Hassan. He is competing against the Congress candidate, Shreyas M Patel, who is 31 years old and the grandson of Puttaswamy Gowda.

Hassan was part of the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections, which took place on April 26.
