Akshay Oberoi talked about his family connections in Bollywood and how nepotism affected his career. He shared that, even though he’s the nephew of actor Suresh Oberoi and cousin to Vivek Oberoi, these relationships didn’t have a big impact on his path in the film industry.

He said that the tag of being related to his famous relatives never really mattered to him. It’s only now, as he’s gaining some popularity, that people are starting to dig into his background and personal details.
Akshay further spoke openly about the nepotism debate, expressing that the audience is intelligent enough to tell the difference between a privileged actor and someone with real talent. He feels the audience recognizes his long-term hard work and dedication, adding that they are sharp and aware of everything. He’s confident and relaxed about it.
He also reflected on his journey, describing it as “
reverse nepotism
” since he didn’t have the usual industry connections. He expressed regret over lacking guidance and opportunities, explaining that if he had stronger relationships, he could have sought advice from experienced people, which would have helped him navigate his career better.
Akshay shared that even Karan Johar, a key figure in the industry, wasn’t aware of his connection to Vivek. He emphasized that despite his family ties, no one saw him as a product of nepotism. Instead, he made his way as an outsider, without any guiding hand or industry support.
