JAMMU: Ahead of Republic Day celebrations, alert Army troops averted a tragedy by detecting a ready-to-use
Improvised Explosive Device
(IED) during an
anti-terror operation
in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district Monday.
“In view of the upcoming Republic Day, security forces have intensified anti-terror operations. During such a patrol, Army personnel found an IED concealed in Dalan village of Poonch’s Degwar sector,” said an official.
The area was cordoned off and a
bomb disposal squad
was called in to dispose of the explosive. It was defused following SOP, the official added.
A search operation was subsequently launched in the area to track the suspects involved in planting the IED. It continued till the time of going to press.
