About 20% BPL cards in Karnataka found to be ineligible, says Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs K.H. Muniyappa

The process of converting Below Poverty Line (BPL) cards of families that have more income into Above Poverty Line (APL) cards will soon resume, and the plan is to complete it in three months. About 20% BPL cards are found to be ineligible in Karnataka as per norms, Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs K.H. Muniyappa said.

Replying during Question Hour in the Legislative Council on Monday, the Minister admitted that there was some confusion on the issue. In some time, the process of converting BPL cards into APL cards would be completed, he said.

Replying to queries raised by Ivan D’Souza of the Congress, T.N. Javarayi Gowda and T.A. Sharavana of the JD(S), and C.T. Ravi and Hanumanth Nirani of he BJP, Mr. Muniyappa said that of the total BPL cards in the State, 20% were found to be eligible for conversion into APL cards.
