Abhishek Banerjee enjoyed a successful August at the box office with the release of his two films, ‘
Stree 2
‘ and ‘Vedaa.’ In a recent interview with PTI, he described director Amar Kaushik as a ‘bully from Kanpur,’ saying that even though Kaushik may act like a distinguished gentleman, he still brings a ‘Kanpuriya’ vibe to the set.
“He can insult you very badly about your humor and acting.
He might say, ‘Abey, kya kar raha hai ye? Ye kahan se seekh ke aaya hai?’ (What are you doing? Where did you learn this from?) So, you’re always on your toes,” he said.
The 39-year-old actor mentioned that the cast on the ‘Stree’ set is very comfortable with each other and often jokes around. “What works for us is that we can be very ruthless towards each other and we can really make fun of each other.” The actor said that on the Stree set, actors aren’t shy about laughing if someone’s improvisation isn’t funny.
He added that on other film sets, this kind of openness doesn’t happen because people feel insulted. However, on the ‘Stree’ set, everyone sees it as a chance to improve. “When you are so naked in front of your co-actors, that’s when the best lines come.” He also noted that they respect this freedom and keep a self-imposed sense of decorum.
Further he praised veteran actor Pankaj Tripathi, saying he is effortlessly talented and can make even the most mundane things funny. “Sometimes I’m just laughing by looking at the things he does,” he added.
As the discussion about who deserves credit for Stree 2’s success continue, Abhishek Banerjee noted that all the actors are ‘very secure.’ “And even if we are insecure, we say everything out loud. Like, I would do that a lot on song shoots and say ‘Mujhe center frame chahiye’ (I want to be centre frame) just to irritate my co-actors,” the actor concluded.
