’s Mr. Perfectionist, Aamir Khan, who is known for his remarkable performances and unique approach to cinema, has finally broken his silence on why he chooses to stay away from award ceremonies. Over the years, Aamir’s absence from such events has often raised eyebrows, but his recent candid interaction with veteran actor Nana Patekar shed light on his reasons.
In the conversation, Aamir explained, “Shuru shuru mein main jaata tha, baad mein maine
award functions
mein jaana band kar diya. Actually mujhe laga ki jis field mein hum hai, wo bahut hi subjective field hai. Ye aisa to hai nahi ki tennis hai, ki line se baahar hai to out hai ya phir race hai, jaha ek aadmi doose se jyaada fast bhaag raha hai, to filmon mein hum kisi ko first ya second kaise bol sakte hain? Kyoni humne alaga alag kahaaniyan ki hain, aapne Parinda kiya hai, maine Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak Ki Hai, hum apna performance kaise compare karenge?”
He added, “Doosra mujhe kya lagta hai ki, as Indians, hum emotional bahut hain, aur wo acchi baat bhi hai, to kisi ko award dene ka waqt aata hai, to hum kaam ko award nahi dete, hum insaan ko award dete hain, jabki ulta hona chhaiye. Insaan koi bhi ho, hum uske kaam ko appreciate kar rahe hain.”
Aamir Khan to shift his base from Mumbai to Chennai; details inside
Aamir believes the subjective nature of filmmaking makes it difficult to rank performances and that awards should honor the work, not the individual.
Though Aamir refrained from directly naming any film or award, his remarks bring to mind the controversy surrounding Akshay Kumar’s National Award win for Rustom. Aamir’s critically acclaimed
Dangal
was a strong contender, yet Akshay took home the award. The situation escalated when jury head Priyadarshan told Hindustan Times, “Why should we have given the Best Actor award to Aamir Khan when he has made it very clear that he doesn’t attend award functions? If he doesn’t want to accept the honour, what is the point in honouring him?”
On the work front, Aamir is gearing up for his next film,
Sitaare Zameen Par
, a sports drama that is reportedly a remake of the Spanish movie Campeones.
