Two YSRCP MPs resigned from the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, which could help its archrival and Andhra Pradesh‘s ruling party TDP open its account in RS. Their resignations would also help NDA cross the majority mark in the Upper House. At present, YSRCP has 12 MPs in the House and TDP none.
Days after meeting TDP supremo and Andhra Pradesh CM N Chandrababu Naidu, YSRCP MPs Mopidevi Venkataramana Rao and Beeda Masthan Rao submitted their resignation, which was accepted by Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar.
Venkataramana’s term was set to expire in 2026 while Masthan was to retire in 2028. With their resignations and the party having an absolute majority in the Andhra Pradesh assembly, TDP can easily get their candidates elected to the Rajya Sabha in the bypolls. Sources said with YSRCP losing power, several other MPs are also looking to resign and a few of them are keen on joining BJP.
