Sunil Chhetri Retirement: India Football Team skipper Sunil Chhetri bid adieu to International Football with teary eyes
Not the result, India wanted. Not the result, Sunil Chhetri wanted. But toothless Blue Tigers were held to a goalless draw at home to Kuwait. After the game, the departing skipper with folded hands, tears in his eyes, circled the entire ground to bid adieu. The entire stadium erupts chanting his name.
Amrinder Singh was close to give Chhetri a hug who hid his face from the overflowing emotions and tears. And then finally, he gets a much deserved guard of honour from his players. With folded arms to glances the stadium one last time. One last time with the sky blue jersey.
Alas, a sign of grief, before he puts his head down, takes a few paces to walk down the dark tunnel to the dressing room. That is the end, that is how the Captain, the Leader, the Legend, left the International stage for One Last Time in front of 59 thousand fans shouting their lungs for the skipper.
Hopes were high on Sunil Chhetri to put up a grand show on his last game for the country. But that was not the case to be. The Indian skipper was not where to be seen on the pitch. Is he to be blamed? Not really. The Indian Football Team put out a horror show and Sunil was the worst sufferer.
