18th Lok Sabha: Many parties choose younger members as floor leaders

NEW DELHI: Many parties have opted for relatively young faces as their floor leaders or parliamentary party leaders in the 18th Lok Sabha. While there are few who have opted for caste considerations while deciding the face.

TDP, the second-largest party in the ruling alliance with 16 MPs in the Lok Sabha, has appointed 40-year-old Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu, a secondterm MP, as its floor leader. Devarayalu, an educationist by profession, represented YSRCP in the previous Lok Sabha. He joined TDP before LS polls.

YSRCP has continued with Midhun Reddy, 46, as its floor leader. The thirdtime MP is a low-profile leader who enjoys trust and good rapport with party chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

RJD has appointed Abhay Kushwaha, 52, as its floor leader in the Lok Sabha. The party has opted for a leader outside Lalu Prasad’s family. Kushwaha is Koeri by caste which was associated with Nitish Kumar-led JDU.

DMK has opted for Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, a relatively young face at 56, as its parliamentary party leader. Party veteran TR Baalu continues to remain floor leader in the Lok Sabha.
