The Kolkata Knight Riders vs. Royal Challengers Bengaluru match in IPL 2025 could be affected by rain at Eden Gardens.
Rain could impact the IPL 2025 opener between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Kolkata on Saturday.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an “orange alert” for the region, forecasting light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds until March 22. Both Friday and Saturday are expected to witness significant rainfall.
The match is scheduled for a 7:00 PM toss and a 7:30 PM start. IPL’s league stage allows for an extra hour of extension, meaning a five-over game must conclude by midnight. If the match is washed out, both teams will share a point.
Following the season opener, KKR will face Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati on March 26, while RCB will take on Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk on March 28.
Unlike the playoffs and final, group-stage matches, including the season opener, do not have reserve days.
However, the match can be extended by up to 60 minutes beyond its scheduled end time.
For a result to be determined, each team must play at least five overs. The cut-off time for a five-over game is 10:56 PM IST, with play required to finish by 12:06 AM IST.
If rain interrupts play, overs will be reduced depending on the duration of the delay.
