Renowned playback singer Udit Narayan has found himself at the centre of controversy once again, after a video of him kissing another female fan on the lips surfaced online. The incident, which quickly went viral, has led social media users to dub the veteran singer a ‘
serial kisser
’ a title, previously held by actor Emraan Hashmi.
The video in question shows several female fans posing for selfies with the singer near the stage. However, much to the surprise of unsuspecting fans, the singer tilts the woman’s head and appears to plant a kiss on her cheek, before going on to kiss her on the lips.
Narayan, engaging in what appears to be an unsolicited kiss with a fan, has sparked widespread criticism and debate on online platforms. This video comes just days after the singer made headlines for kissing a young female fan on the lips after she kissed his cheek. However, over the past days, several fans have brought to light videos where the singer has been caught in such an act with female fans.
Many netizens have taken to Twitter and Instagram to express their disapproval, with some calling for the singer to issue an apology. Others have questioned the appropriateness of such behaviour, especially given Narayan’s stature in the industry.
Speaking to ETimes, Udit addressed the controversy saying, “There is a deep pure and unbreakable bond between my fans and I. What you saw in the so-called scandalous video was a manifestation of the love between my fans and I. They love me and I love them back even more.”
Defending his actors, he said to ETimes, “What happened on stage is not new. This is a matter or happiness the love expressed by fans. Big singers like Michael Jackson, they also hug and kiss fans what is there to make a big thing I think it is a matter of pride this episode has only boost my career.”
