Shweta Rohira on her road to recovery: This accident has changed my life in ways I never imagined

Shweta Rohira

met with a serious accident when she was hit by a speeding bike. Currently recovering at home, she is taking one day at a time and focusing on healing. Recalling the incident, she shares, “I was leaving my workplace for the day when I noticed a bike speeding toward me. Before I could react, he crashed into me. I woke up in a hospital bed with multiple injuries — a fractured leg, hand injuries, a broken lip, and some dental damage. Thankfully, there were no internal injuries. While the road to recovery is long, I know this too shall pass.”
She has been advised complete rest as her injuries heal. She explains, “The recovery process is a bit lengthy because of the leg fracture, which will take about four weeks to heal. My lips had to be stitched again as they were torn apart, and I will need one more cosmetic surgery for them. The facial dental surgery is also a long process. My orthopaedic surgeon has said that the fracture will take about a month, and until then, I need to rest and take things one day at a time.”
Despite the physical and emotional challenges, Shweta is maintaining a positive outlook. She reflects, “This accident has changed my life in ways I never imagined. Physically, it feels like I’m under house arrest— I can’t move much, I can’t talk much, and even the simplest tasks feel difficult. Some days, my head feels so heavy that I can’t do anything at all. It’s tough because I love being on the move, starting my day with energy and purpose. Now, I’ve been forced to slow down and just be. Even reading — something I love — has become difficult. However, I believe that sometimes, life forces us to pause for a reason. Mentally, it’s a journey with moments of pain, fear, and uncertainty. But in those moments, I remind myself: I am still here. I survived. And that means there is a reason, a purpose. I am learning to embrace myself even in my most vulnerable state and to trust that whatever happens is leading me toward something better. This experience is teaching me resilience in a way I’ve never known before. It’s not easy, but I choose to believe that this, too, is part of my story — a story of strength, growth, and grace. And I know I will come out of this stronger.”
Shweta also has an important message for those who engage in reckless driving without considering the consequences. She urges, “To all my fellow riders out there — please be mindful! Life is not a Bollywood action movie, and you are not in Dhoom. Speeding through crowded streets doesn’t make you a cool biker; it just makes you a reckless one. Mumbai’s roads aren’t your personal racetrack — there are pedestrians, children, and even street animals who share these spaces with us. True swag isn’t about how fast you ride, but about how responsibly you do it. So slow down, ride smart, and remember — the real thrill is in reaching your destination safely.”
