Legendary playback singer Udit Narayan, who is known for his iconic hits like Pehla Nasha, Main Nikla O Gaddi Leke and Tip Tip Barsa Paani, has not only made headlines for his melodies but also for his tumultuous personal life.
Udit Narayan’s first marriage was to a woman named Ranjana in 1985 in Bihar. At the time, he was not a well-known name, and the news of his wedding remained under wraps. Seeking opportunities, Udit moved to Mumbai, leaving Ranjana behind.
Once in Mumbai, Udit reportedly fell in love with Deepa Gahatraj, a singer from Nepal who was trying her luck in Bollywood. The two married and had a son, Aditya Narayan, a well-known playback singer and television host. It is believed that Deepa was unaware of Udit’s first marriage for a long time.
The scandal came to light in 2006 when Udit visited Patna for a performance. Ranjana, accompanied by reporters, entered his hotel room and confronted him publicly. She accused Udit of keeping her in the dark about his marriage to Deepa and of threatening to commit suicide whenever she tried to reveal the truth.
Initially, Udit denied all allegations, calling Ranjana a stranger. “I don’t know this woman and have never met her before. These are just attempts to malign me,” he told PTI. However, Ranjana produced photographs and legal documents proving their marriage and sought justice through the State Women’s Commission.
Despite multiple summons, Udit avoided appearing before the commission. Eventually, legal pressure forced him to acknowledge Ranjana as his wife. In a public statement, he accepted her as his legally wedded wife and agreed to provide for her upkeep. Ranjana later clarified that she had no grievances against Deepa or Aditya, stating, “I have got what a wife should have. He has agreed to keep me along with Deepa.”

In the clip, Udit was performing Tip Tip Barsa Paani when a fan approached him for a selfie. As she kissed him on the cheek, he tilted his head and kissed her on the lips, leaving many shocked. The video has since triggered a social media frenzy, with mixed reactions from fans.
