Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Sunday dared AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal to drink the “stinking water” of the Yamuna River.
“On one hand, the poor people of Delhi are forced to drink dirty water. On the other hand, Kejriwal ji, who came to power by making false promises, sits in a ‘Sheesh Mahal’ and indulges in corruption worth crores with his team,” he alleged while addressing a rally at Hauz Qazi Chowk in old Delhi in support of the Congress’ Ballimaran candidate Haroon Yusuf.
Mr. Gandhi claimed only he and his party supported those facing violence during the 2020 Delhi riots and would continue to stand with anyone facing oppression.
Job crisis
Meanwhile, Congress Lok Sabha member Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said the job crisis has reached the point that a postgraduate in Science is working as a gardener. She also criticised the Union Budget, saying it failed to address the country’s key issues – inflation and unemployment.
Addressing a rally at the Seemapuri Assembly of north-east Delhi in support of the party candidate and former MLA Rajesh Lilothia, Ms. Vadra said, “I met a woman in a public park who was working as a gardener. She told me that she has a Master in Science [MSc]. Today, the condition of the country is such that after doing an MSc, people have to work on daily wages.”
She alleged that AAP and the BJP had betrayed the people of Delhi and had only spent money on advertising instead of work.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has recently made several promises to the people of Delhi. Why did he not do all this during the last ten years? Mr. Modi has only remembered now that the gas cylinders should be provided for Rs 500 each, just ahead of the elections,” Ms. Vadra asked.
Ms. Vadra also criticised Mr Modi for “distorting and misinterpreting” her mother, Sonia Gandhi’s compassionate remarks on President Droupadi Murmu. “Sonia Gandhi ji expressed sympathies with the President. It was one elderly lady sympathising with another elderly lady, but Modi ji tried to make any election issue out of it.”
Attacking AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, she said, “He [Mr. Kejriwal] had maligned former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit over the safety and security of women. Are the women feeling safe and secure in Kejriwal’s Delhi”, she asked.
