'BJP workers, Delhi police harassing AAP volunteers': Arvind Kejriwal writes to EC

NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday wrote to the Election Commission of India alleging “intimidation and harassment” of AAP volunteers by Bharatiya Janata Party workers and the Delhi police.
“I am writing to express my grave concern over the intimidation and harassment being meted out to our grass-root volunteers in the

New Delhi Assembly Constituency

at the hands of BJP workers and Delhi Police in the run-up to the election day,” the letter said.

The letter noted several instances when the party workers were detained on “baseless” charges or “assaulted” by BJP workers, including the attack on former CM’s convoy.

“Even my convoy was attacked by goons on 18 Jan 2025 when I went to campaign in Lal bahadur Sadan, Sector 2, DIZ Area, Gole Market,” it said.
Kejriwal made certain demands to “prevent the blatant misuse of law enforcement agencies for political purposes and ensure a free and fair election”.

  • Independent election observers to be deployed in the New Delhi constituency.
  • Election Commission must ensure the safety of AAP volunteers.
  • Immediate suspension of police officers involved in such incidents.
  • Arrest BJP workers responsible for the attacks.

Delhi is set to go to polls on February 5. Votes would be counted on February 8.
