TThe Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, has forecast light to moderate rain at a few places in south Tamil Nadu and at one or two places in north Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and Karaikal areas on Monday. For Chennai, light rain is likely to occur in some areas.
Thunderstorm expected
In some places, the rain may be accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning and is likely to continue till Thursday.
Light to moderate Northeasterlies/Easterlies continue to prevail over the region in the lower tropospheric levels.
Saturday’s trough over the Bay of Bengal off the Tamil Nadu coast has become less marked.
With the Northeast monsoon remaining vigorous over Tamil Nadu, rainfall occurred at many places in the State and Puducherry and Karaikal areas.
From 8.30 a.m. till 5.30 p.m. on Sunday, Pamban recorded 79.6 mm of rainfall, Tiruttani 19.6 mm, Vellore 12.6 mm, Parangipettai in Cuddalore district 9.6 mm, Vedasandur in Dindigul district 19 mm, Perambalur 10.5 mm, and Thoothukudi 14.5 mm.
Mist/haze is very likely to prevail, generally during the morning hours, in isolated pockets of the State on Monday.
