Final-year mechanical engineering students from Madanapalle Institute of Technology and Science (MITS) have developed a low-cost, portable thermoelectric refrigeration system. Guided by faculty members Ananth Raman L. and D. Arun Kumar, the project offers an efficient, eco-friendly alternative to conventional refrigeration.

The system uses the ‘Peltier effect’ to achieve cooling within three minutes, maintaining a temperature between 2.3°C and 10°C for at least 30 minutes. With a heat rejection rate of three litres a minute, it is ideal for food preservation, vaccine storage and electronic cooling, the developers claim.

MITS principal C. Yuvaraj underlined the project’s potential to address environmental concerns by reducing CO2 emissions and providing reliable and low-maintenance cooling solutions.

The students—A. Dhanush, B. Raj Kumar Nayak, B. Suryanarayana, A. Venkata Subbaiah and C. Solomon Raj—was felicitated by MITS management for their achievement, marking the institute’s commitment to fostering innovation and sustainability.
