Police in Telangana’s Karimnagar town have registered three cases against Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA P. Kaushik Reddy in connection with the incident during District Review Committee (DRC) meeting in Karimnagar on Sunday.
NEW DELHI:
Bharat Rashtra Samithi
(BRS) MLA
Padi Koushik Reddy
was arrested on Monday in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, after multiple complaints were filed against him following a chaotic altercation at an official meeting in the Karimnagar Collectorate on Sunday.
The meeting, convened to discuss development projects and basic amenities in the district, descended into chaos when tensions flared between Reddy and Congress MLA Sanjay Kumar. According to reports, the conflict erupted after Reddy challenged Kumar’s loyalty, accusing him of betrayal following his switch from BRS to Congress.
Eyewitnesses reported that the exchange became increasingly heated, with Reddy daring Kumar to recontest elections, which led to a physical confrontation. Both leaders allegedly attempted to strike each other, causing pandemonium in the meeting room.
Police were called to de-escalate the situation and escorted Reddy out of the hall. In the aftermath, three separate complaints were lodged against Reddy. Congress MLA Sanjay Kumar’s aide, Katharoju Vinod Kumar, accused Reddy of mistreatment, while Revenue Divisional Officer Maheshwar claimed the MLA disrupted the official proceedings. District Library Chairman Sattu Mallaiah further alleged that Reddy attempted to assault individuals present during the meeting.
Karimnagar police
confirmed the arrest and registered three cases against Reddy under various charges, including assault and creating a public disturbance.
The incident has drawn sharp criticism from opposition parties, with demands for stringent action against Reddy. The case has added fuel to the already charged political atmosphere in Telangana as assembly elections loom.
