Speaking to The Indian Express, Richa and Ali opened up about the challenges and triumphs of producing their first film. Ali revealed how the couple had to rely on their resourcefulness to fund the film. “We are all from a country that is famous for its jugaad… its ability to figure out a way to get things done. Honestly, we asked for money from here and there and even broke our fixed deposits to fund Girls Will Be Girls. But we managed. Now, it is getting a nice release, and many sections of the audience are watching it. It is possible,” said Ali.
The ‘Fukrey 3’ actress shed the importance of global collaboration in bringing the project to life. “This film was edited in France and received a grant because of its core idea.” highlighting how partnerships can overcome financial hurdles in independent filmmaking.
‘Girls Will Be Girls’ explores universal themes with a fresh perspective, offering a platform for emerging talent. Ali and Richa’s production house aims to support more such projects in the future. “Our place is open for collaborations, and we would love to listen to a lot of ideas. We hope we can produce more films like these and make them reach a wider audience,” Ali stated.
