Taking a veiled dig at actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay’s comment that the DMK cannot return to power in the 2026 elections, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on Saturday said that he does not watch any film news.
Mr. Udhayanidhi, who arrived in Vellore on Friday to attend various events, made the comment during the launch of the book Ellarukumana Thalaivar Ambedkar.
The book was published by Vikatan Publications, along with Voice of Commons (VoC), a political consultancy firm founded by Aadhav Arjuna, the VCK deputy general secretary.
The Deputy Chief Minister also reacted to Mr. Arjuna’s view that Tami Nadu was still under dynastic rule, where leaders were chosen by “virtue of birth”.
“No one in Tamil Nadu was chosen as Chief Minister by birth. They became Chief Ministers after getting people’s mandate. Some do not even have this basic knowledge,” Mr. Udhayanidhi said.
Earlier, Mr. Udhayanidhi gave away sports kits to sportspersons at a function in Katpadi. He also inaugurated several civic amenities including a restored pond, a bus terminus in Walajah of Ranipet and an upgraded primary healthcare centre in Melvisharam near Arcot town before returning to Chennai.
