Although Kishan played two seasons with the Gujarat Lions before joining the Mumbai Indians, he was known for his exploits in Mumbai that propelled him to greater heights.
Ishan Kishan has bid adieu to his franchise, Mumbai Indians (MI). But unlike most players, MI was close to Kishan’s heart. He might not have made his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut with them, but Mumbai was where he became the player he is today. The franchise molded him and happened to be one of the reasons he went on to represent the Indian cricket team in not just T20I but all formats.

Kishan spent his development years with them. Training alongside the best players in the world and under coaches of high repute. Such was his bond that when he wasn’t retained by the franchise in 2021, he bought him back for a whopping Rs 16.25 crore at the IPL 2022 auction. Unfortunately, that couldn’t happen at the 2025 mega auction, and after spending 7 years with the Mumbai Indians, he has to switch franchises.
Before joining the Sunrisers Hyderabad for the IPL 2025, he poured his heart into his franchise. “So many memories with all of you, so many moments of joy, happiness, and growth. MI, Mumbai, and the Paltan will always remain in my heart. I’ve grown as a person and a player with all of you by my side. We say goodbye with memories that will stay with me for life. Thank you to the management, coaches, the players I’ve played with, and all you fans for always being in my corner,” Kishan wrote while posting a montage of some of his best moments at MI.
