Amid the prediction of rains in several parts of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday (November 27, 2024), authorities have declared holidays for schools and colleges in several regions, including Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, and Tiruvarur, in anticipation of heavy rains.
Holiday was declared in Tiruchi, Pudukottai and Ariyalur as well.
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, on Tuesday (November 26, 2024) said that the depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal has now intensified into a deep depression and that it is likely to intensify further into a cyclonic storm on Wednesday.

Madras University postpones exams
The University of Madras has postponed exams scheduled for today.
“Due to heavy rain in Thiruvallur district, holiday had been declared to schools and colleges hence the University examinations scheduled to be conducted today (27/11/2024) has been postponed. The revised date will be informed later,” said the controller of examinations.
Exams scheduled for polytechnic colleges have been postponed as well, according to the Directorate of Technical Education.

Nagapattinam receives heaviest rainfall
Nagapattinam received the heaviest rainfall of 16.4 cm till 5.30 a.m. on Wednesday.
Many other places, including Karaikal, Cuddalore (9cm each) and Ennore in Chennai (8 cm) recorded heavy rains.
The Regional Meteorological Centre Chennai has forecast moderate rains to continue in 15 districts, including Chennai, Nagapattinam, Cuddalore and Tiruvarur till 10 a.m.
