The Mahayuti alliance achieved a decisive victory in the 2024 Maharashtra assembly elections, securing 231 of the 288 constituencies. The coalition, led by Shiv Sena’s Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis (BJP) and Ajit Pawar (NCP), is set to retain control of the state government. The opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) managed to win or lead in only 50 seats, marking a significant setback for the alliance of the Congress, NCP (Sharad Pawar faction), and Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena faction.

Leadership Meeting at Taj Lands End

The Shiv Sena faction led by Eknath Shinde will hold its legislative party meeting on Sunday evening at the Taj Lands End Hotel in Mumbai. During this meeting, the party is expected to officially elect Shinde as its leader, solidifying his position as Chief Minister for the upcoming term.

Addressing a press conference alongside his deputy chief ministers, Shinde termed the victory “record-breaking” and expressed gratitude to the people of Maharashtra. “This is the record-breaking victory of Mahayuti. We are thankful to the whole of Maharashtra…We removed all the obstacles created by the MVA during their governance,” said Shinde.

Shinde also credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his support and redefined “CM” as “Common Man” to underline the government’s alignment with the public’s aspirations.

Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis reinforced Shinde’s position within Shiv Sena and the coalition, stating, “People have given their mandate and accepted Eknath Shinde as the real Shiv Sena. Ajit Pawar has got the legitimacy of the NCP.”

Celebrations Across the State

Post-victory, Mahayuti leaders celebrated by exchanging sweets and displaying victory signs. At the BJP office in Mumbai, visuals showed Fadnavis preparing jalebi to mark the win. Union Home Minister Amit Shah also extended his congratulations to Eknath Shinde, Devendra Fadnavis, and Ajit Pawar for their leadership in securing the landslide victory.

The Mahayuti coalition, formed by the BJP, Shiv Sena (Shinde faction), and NCP (Ajit Pawar faction), campaigned extensively across the state, promising stability and development after a period of political turbulence under the MVA’s governance.

This election marks the alliance’s strong consolidation of power, driven by a narrative of inclusive governance and overcoming challenges posed during the opposition’s tenure. The MVA, despite efforts to regain momentum, faced significant setbacks, highlighting a shift in public sentiment towards Mahayuti’s leadership and vision.

Opposition Stumbles

The Maha Vikas Aghadi, which governed Maharashtra before Mahayuti, failed to garner significant support, winning just 50 seats. This loss reflects a major decline in the influence of MVA leaders, including Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar.

With a commanding mandate, the Mahayuti alliance is poised to continue its tenure in Maharashtra, promising governance that resonates with the common citizen’s needs.
