Kolkata: Giving a clarion call to bring change of power in Bengal in 2026 assembly polls, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Sunday that infiltration at Indo-Bangladesh border will stop completely if BJP comes to power in the state in 2026.

Lashing out at the Trinamool Congress-led government over corruption, Shah said the funds sent by the Modi government are routed to corrupt Trinamool leaders. “Mamata Didi talks about injustice in MGNREGA. You (Mamata) were part of UPA. But now in the NDA regime, Modi, in the last ten years, has sent Rs 56,000crore for NREGA. When Modi sends money, it goes to corrupt TMC leaders. Where does this money go? Did the money go to people or Trinamool Congress.” Shah hit out at INDIA Alliance as well during his speech.

He also assured that “Achhe Din” will come to Bengal after counting of 2026 assembly polls is completed and BJP comes to power. “Peace will come once infiltration stops. Partnership with neighbouring countries like Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar in terms of business and cultural aspects will be enhanced. In terms of progress, several initiatives can be possible,” Shah said as he inaugurated the Passenger Terminal Building and Maitri Dwar at Land Port in Bengal’s Petrapole today.

“Modi is determined to work towards the prosperity of Bengal…Bengal will become ‘Sonar Bangla’ and BJP will leave no stones unturned to ensure development here,” Shah said.

The New Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) at Land Port Petrapole is set to enhance the travel experience between India and Bangladesh. Designed to reflect the grandeur of international transport hubs, the PTB at Petrapole is equipped with all modern facilities, including VIP lounges, Duty free shop, basic medical facility, infant feeding Room, food and beverages outlets.

“PTB will bring development and prosperity to the area,” the Union Home Minister said.

With a passenger handling capacity of 20,000 per day, it will house immigration, customs, and security services under one roof with a substantial built-up area of 59,800 square meters. It has automated entry and exit systems through flap barrier integration.

The Land Port in Petrapole is the largest Land Port in South Asia and it is a vital gateway for trade and commerce between India and Bangladesh. Petrapole (India)-Benapole (Bangladesh) is one of the most important land border crossings for India-Bangladesh in terms of trade and passenger movement.

Nearly 70 percent of land-based trade between India and Bangladesh takes place through this Land Port. Petrapole Land Port is also the eighth largest international immigration port of India and facilitates movement of over 23.5 lakh passengers annually between India and Bangladesh.
