Nimrat Kaur unveils a war memorial dedicated to her father on the occasion of his 72nd birth anniversary

On the occasion of

Major Bhupender Singh

‘s 72nd birthday, Bollywood actress Nimrat Kaur paid a heartfelt homage to her late father by inaugurating a

war memorial

in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan. On January 23, 1994,

terrorists

killed Major Singh, a brave Indian Army officer, while he was stationed in Jammu and Kashmir. Major Singh and twelve other soldiers who gave their lives while performing their duties are honoured at the memorial, which includes a bronze bust of him.
Along with the relatives of the other twelve fallen soldiers, Nimrat, her sister Rubina Singh, and her mother Avinash Kaur attended the event. In addition, villagers, local administration representatives, and senior Indian Army officers came to pay their respects. As a moving reminder of the sacrifices made by these courageous men, the memorial is currently situated in a public space that has been called Major Bhupender Singh Chowk.
Nimrat took to her social media handle and expressed her gratitude and emotions surrounding the memorial’s inauguration. She wrote, “On Papa’s 72nd Birth Anniversary today, Mama, my sister and I inaugurated a memorial in his name honouring not only his but 12 other gallant soldiers’ supreme sacrifice for the nation all hailing from Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan. A dream my family and I dreamt of 30 years ago since we lost him in Jammu and Kashmir in 1994, finally came true. My sincerest gratitude for the relentless efforts and support from the civil administration in close co-ordination with the local army personnel stationed here.” She expressed her gratitude to the local authorities and army for helping to make her dream a reality.

She further wrote, “Papa was a son of the soil, born to a farmers’ family in Mohanpura village. He led, lived and died by example, fearless and fierce till his last breath. Words fail me today to express the pride I feel standing on this soil, in his birthplace witnessing immortalising his name and life story to inspire present day and future generations. Also a heartfelt thanks to Mr Thomas John Kovoor of Studio Sukriti in Jaipur for his patience through the meticulous sculpting journey executing such a flawless job and breathing life into my father’s sculpture with such keen and flawless attention to detail. Happy Birthday to my Papa. Long live my father’s name and long live his legacy…Jai Hind 🙏🏼🇮🇳 @indianarmy.adgpi.”

Terrorists assaulted him on January 17, 1994, while he was doing reconnaissance for his team’s construction projects. He repositioned his men during the attack, displaying unmatched bravery, which finally resulted in his abduction by the Hizb-ul-Mujahideen group. Although he tragically died a week later, this memorial honours his bravery and dedication, ensuring that his sacrifice and that of his fellow troops will always be remembered.
