IPL Retention: The excitement is starting to build for the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction. Ahead of the IPL retention last date, all ten teams have some big decisions to make. The teams can decide how many players they want to retain but cannot retain more than six players, of which one should be an uncapped player. On that note, let us check out all the details about the IPL retention last date and time, among others.

The last date for the 10 IPL franchises to submit the lists of direct retentions is October 31, 2024, by 4:30 pm (Indian Standard Time).

IPL retention rules

The IPL franchises can retain up to six players each for the 2025 season, the right-to-match (RTM) option is back for the mega auction, and the Impact Player rule will remain in place till the 2027 season. That aside, the auction purse has been increased by INR 20 crore and is now Rs 120 crore.

Each franchise can retain a maximum of six players via a combination of retention and the RTM option. “It is at the discretion of the IPL franchise to choose their combination for retentions and RTMs,” the IPL release said. “The six retentions/RTMs can have a maximum of five capped players (Indian and overseas) and a maximum of two uncapped [Indian] players.”

IPL retained players salary slabs

The salary slab for an uncapped retained player is Rs 4 crore. The salaries of retained players will be deducted from the total purse of Rs 120 crore. Therefore, if a franchise retains more players, its auction purse will be reduced accordingly.
