Rishabh Pant has jumped three places to the sixth position on the ICC ranking for batters in Test, overtaking teammate Virat Kohli

India cricket team wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has climbed three spots on the Test rankings for batters to move to the 6th position. The southpaw overtook Virat Kohli following IND vs NZ 1st Test in which the Men in Blue were handed a defeat. Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah continues to be the number one Test bowler while New Zealand’s Matt Henry has stormed into the top ten after his heroics in Bengaluru.

Rishabh Pant was the only Indian batter apart from Yashasvi Jaiswal to get to double figures in the 1st innings in Bengaluru. India were bundled out for just 46 runs in what was a nightmare of a session for the hosts. The southpaw’s knock was the highest score by an Indian batter in the innings, managing to make just 20 runs before he was dismissed.

In the 2nd innings, Rishabh Pant bounced back with a 99-run knock, narrowly missing out on a well-deserved century. The keeper-batter walked out to bat after staying off the field on the previous day after he developed a swelling in his right knee on being hit by Ravindra Jadeja’s delivery. Pant stitched together a 177-run knock on Day 4 along with Sarfaraz Khan, helping India scale down the mammoth 1st innings total put on board by New Zealand. Rishabh Pant was dismissed on 99, marking yet another occasion where he has been dismissed in his nineties, a number that outweighs the number of hundreds he has in the longest format.
