September sees 10% drop in equity mutual fund inflows

NEW DELHI:

Equity mutual funds

inflows declined 10% in September to Rs 34,419 crore compared to the previous month, primarily due to significant reduction in investments in thematic and

large-cap funds

.
However, despite the decrease, this marks the 43rd consecutive month of net inflows in equity funds, according to data from the

Association of Mutual Funds in India

(AMFI) released on Thursday.

The mutual fund industry overall witnessed an outflow of Rs 71,114 crore in September, following an outflow of Rs 1.08 lakh crore in August, largely due to withdrawals amounting to Rs 1.14 lakh crore from debt schemes. However, even with the outflow, the industry’s net assets under management increased from Rs 66.7 lakh crore in August to Rs 67 lakh crore by the end of September.
Among the equity-oriented schemes, sector or

thematic funds

attracted the highest net inflows of Rs 13,255 crore during September, although this figure was lower compared to the Rs 18,117 crore recorded in August. Furthermore, inflows into large-cap funds dropped to Rs 1,769 crore from Rs 2,637 crore in the previous month.
