The king of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan had once said that during a specific sequence in his 2007 film ‘Om Shanti Om’ with Deepika Padukone, he felt like a “stalker uncle.” Deepika made her debut with the film when she was just 21 years old. In 2007, the trio appeared as a guest in an episode in the second season of Karan Johar’s chat show ‘Koffee With Karan’. In the episode, Deepika’s opinions on ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ were discussed by Karan and Shah Rukh. The talk show host remembered her reply saying, “Yeah, I loved it. I saw it when I was 11 years old.” He continued his joke by saying that DP was just 8 years old in 1995 when ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ was released.
Then, Karan quipped SRK, “Did you ever feel strange that you were working with someone who’s actually literally seen you as a child?” To which he responded, “I think my first realisation that I am doing a few silly things at my age is when I did the first scene.”
The superstar further added, “I started feeling jhoota (liar). I started feeling, may I say the word, little stalker uncle, little kamina (bad). Ki main kya yeh choti si bacchi k liye aese peeche peeche kar k bhag raha hoon (That I am running after this little girl)?” Farah further added, “Let me just tell you that the scene is fab. He’s done it superbly.”
Karan also asked Deepika if she experienced any nervousness while working with SRK. To which Shah Rukh chuckled and said, “A couple of times, she said, ‘I love you, uncle’.”
Both Deepika and Shah Rukh portrayed dual characters in the film ‘Om Shanti Om’. It also starred Arjun Rampal, Shreyas Talpade and Kirron Kher in pivotal roles. The film was produced by Gauri Khan and directed by Farah Khan.
Shah Rukh and Deepika collaborated once again in Siddharth Anand’s film ‘Pathaan’. The movie also featured John Abraham in the lead role.
