Chess Olympiad 2024 LIVE: India is taking on China in the open section while the Indian women’s team is facing Georgia in Round 7
45th FIDE Chess Olympiad Round 7 2024 Live: Gukesh defeated Wei Yi, Ding Liren’s replacement on the top board for China, to help India win their seventh round tie against China. The rest of the three India vs China games ended in draws so the fate of the match-up rested on this game.
Meanwhile, international master Vantika Agrawal took down grandmaster Bella Khotenashvilli to hand India the lead over Georgia in the seventh round of the Chess Olympiad. Vaishali then sealed India’s victory while Divya Deshmukh vs Nino Batsiashvili and Harika Dronavalli vs Nana Dzagnidze ended in draws.
In the open and the women’s section, both the Indian teams are the sole leaders heading into the second half of the Chess Olympiad. Both teams are so far unbeaten.
The Indian team in the open section has 14 match points after the win over China. The Indian women’s team also has 14 match points after defeating Georgia.
China has prevented Gukesh taking on Ding Liren on the top board by resting the world champion.

Chess Olympiad 2024: India’s ‘strongest team ever’ heading to Budapest itching for gold at 45th Chess Olympiad
India’s chess Avengers are assembling in Budapest. Their mission: to win the gold medal at the Chess Olympiad, the most prestigious team competition in the sport.
An Indian team had won gold at the Olympiad before: but that was a shared one with Russia at the 2020 Online Chess Olympiad, where there was a different format used. India also has bronze medals from their campaigns in 2014 and 2022.
At the 2022 Olympiad in India, players like D Gukesh left their mark. But the 2024 Olympiad in Hungary’s capital could just be the coming-of-age event on the chessboard that India has been awaiting. (READ MORE)
