45th FIDE Women’s Chess Olympiad Round 1 2024 Live: The Indian women’s chess team marches into the 45th Chess Olympiad at Budapest as the top seeds ahead of nations like Ukraine, Georgia, Poland and China.

India are missing veteran legend Koneru Humpy at this Olympiad. In her absence, the team is led by Harika Dronavalli, who has been named as the top board by India captain Abhijit Kunte. Following Harika are Vaishali (Board 2), Divya Deshmukh (Board 3), Vantika Agrawal (Board 4) and Tania Sachdev (Reserve). But against the Jamaica team in the first round of the Chess Olympiad, Harika will be sitting out, which means Vaishali will play on the top board while everyone else moves up a board with the reserve player, Tania Sachdev, playing on board 4.

Talking about India’s biggest rivals in the women’s section, China have sent a young team to the Olympiad with players of the calibre of Hou Yifan, Ju Wenjun, Tan Zhongyi, and Lei Tingjie missing in action this year. Meanwhile, traditional chess powerhouse Georgia could also be one to watch out for. Ukraine will miss the services of the Muzychuk sisters, who are both among the world’s top-10 players.
