Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta

, known for his bold cinematic choices, recently addressed the ongoing trend of re-releasing cult classics in Bollywood, shedding light on the challenges theaters are facing in finding fresh content.
Speaking in an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Gupta noted that while some films are being re-released in theaters, their impact has been minimal, as newer audiences aren’t as connected to the films of earlier eras.

He highlighted the changing dynamics in Bollywood, explaining that many films from the early 2000s don’t resonate with today’s audience. According to him, the lack of compelling new content has led theaters to experiment with everything they can, but it hasn’t been a game-changer.
On the subject of his upcoming film ‘Visfot’, a crime thriller directed by Kookie Gulati, Gupta discussed the decision to release the movie on OTT instead of theaters. Despite feeling that ‘Visfot’ deserved a big-screen experience, Gupta explained that the project was always planned for an OTT release and thus, the theatrical route wasn’t seriously considered.

Additionally, Gupta reflected on Bollywood’s history of drawing inspiration from other films, something he openly embraces. “Filmmakers have always taken certain ideas from movies,” he said, noting that reimagining content is common practice. He pointed out how Visfot and his earlier projects took inspiration from international cinema, but were uniquely tailored for Indian audiences.
‘Visfot’ stars Riteish Deshmukh, Fardeen Khan, and Priya Bapat and will be available on Jio Cinema from September 6, 2024.
