Anubhav Sinha‘s series ‘
IC814: The Kandahar Hijack
‘ is getting a lot of appreciation for the way it is made. However, the makers are also facing severe flak for distorting facts. The makers have avoided the use of actual names of the terrorists in the movie who were Muslims. They changed these actual Muslim names of terrorists and called them ‘Bholaa’ and ‘Shankar’ in the movie which have hurt religions sentiments.
These names are of Lord Shiva and hence false depiction of reality with these names have hurt religious sentiments. Moreover, the internet also feels, it’s absolutely unfair and unethical to change facts and depict what is not true.
Based on these allegations, a
PIL
has been filed in the Delhi High Court, seeking ban on the series. This petition is fild by Surjit Singh Yadav, a farmer and president of Hindu Sena. The petition read, “The distortion of crucial facts about the real identities of the hijackers not only misrepresents historical events but also perpetuates harmful stereotypes and misinformation, warranting interference of this court to prevent further public misunderstanding and potential harm.”
Meanwhile, head of BJP‘s IT Cell,
Amit Malviya
also strongly opposed the film. He wrote on social media, “The hijackers of IC-814 were dreaded terrorists, who acquired aliases to hide their Muslim identities. Filmmaker Anubhav Sinha, legitimised their criminal intent, by furthering their non-Muslim names. Result? Decades later, people will think Hindus hijacked IC-814. Left’s agenda to whitewash the crimes of Pakistani terrorists, all Muslims, served. This is the power of cinema, which the Communists have been using aggressively, since the 70s. Perhaps even earlier. This will not just weaken / put in question India’s security apparatus in the long run, but also shift the blame away from the religious cohort, that is responsible for all the bloodshed.”
‘IC 814’ stars Vijay Varma, Dia Mirza, Pankaj Kapur, Naseeruddin Shah.
