As the uncertainty of India travelling for the Champions Trophy 2025 continues former cricketer Danish Kaneria suggests that India should avoid going to Pakistan for the tournament. Amid political tensions between the countries India has not travelled to the neighbouring country for the 2023 Asia Cup hence the tournament was held in a hybrid model co-hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
“Look at the situation in Pakistan I have to say that the Indian team should not go to Pakistan, and Pakistan should think about it,” Kaneria said on Sports Tak. “The ICC will make their decision and most likely Champions Trophy will be played in a hybrid model in Dubai.
“The safety of the players is the first priority. Respect is the second priority. I think BCCI is doing a great job. Whatever their decision is, other countries will also have to accept that. I think it will be a hybrid model” Kaneria added.
Infrastructure needs improving
There have been investments from the Pakistan Cricket Board to improve the infrastructure and upgrade the stadiums to host the games of the Champions Trophy. Kaneria would also reaffirm the need to do so. “They’re (PCB) equipped but they must upgrade the infrastructure first,” Kaneria said. “Security is the biggest concern, a big question mark.”
PCB has approved the upgradation of cricket stadiums in Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, National Stadium in Karachi and Rawalpindi International Cricket Stadium which are the three venues selected for hosting the Champions Trophy 2025 from February 19-March 9.
According to the Geo News the board has allocated Rs 12.80 billion for the upgradation of the three venues. Recently PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi visited BDP Pattern’s London office.
Naqvi met chairman Chris Harding and other senior officials and gave a nod to the renovation of the stadiums after the interactions. The UK-based organisation has constructed around 200 international stadiums across the world.
