Finally, some good news coming from the US Open for India. Indian tennis players Sriram Balaji and Yuki Bhambri won their respective first-round matches at the US Open. Both players are competing in the doubles event separately with their partners.
First, Yuki Bhambri and his French partner Albano Olivetti kicked off their US Open campaign with a win over local wildcards Ryan Seggerman and Patrik Trhac. The Bhambri-Olivetti duo secured their first-round victory with a score of 6-3, 6-4 in just 76 minutes. They’ll face the Dutch-American duo of Austin Krajicek and Jean-Julien Rojer in the next round.
Balaji advances to second round
Meanwhile, Indian player N Sriram Balaji, teaming up with Guido Andreozzi, also had a successful outing. They overcame Marcus Daniell and Miguel Reyes-Varela after losing the first set, winning 5-7, 6-1, 7-6 (12-6) in a match that stretched over two hours and 36 minutes. Their opponent for the second round has yet to be decided.
Nagal to compete in doubles after singles disappointment
After disappointment in the men’s singles, India’s tennis star Sumit Nagal will try his luck in the men’s doubles event. The 29-year-old will play with Japanese tennis player Yoshihito Nishioka on Wednesday. The duo will compete against the American pair of Robert Cash and James Tracy.
Earlier, Sumit Nagal bowed out of the men’s singles after losing in straight sets to Tallon Griekspoor on Tuesday. He lost his first-round match 1-6, 3-6, 6-7 (6) against the Dutch opponent.
